Western Slope of knuckles mountain,Maningala Rock Trail and Wasgamuwa National Park
Trek – D-2 Nights 3 Days

Pick up from hotel after breakfast drive via Kandy city along A9 highway passing Katugastota Mahaweli River Bridge and arrive in Matale town. Leaving Matale proceed to Raththota passing spice gardens on the way from Rattota drive towards to riversturn Valley. Getting off the vehicle short trek to tower point, from here one could see 160' Degree view of the eastern valley of Sri Lanka. The height at this point is approximately 1500 mtrs above sea level.

same way come back to the vehicle and drive down toward Pitawala Patana Village. On the way one could observe Asia biggest patna valley view and change of weather pattorn to an intermediate weather.

Drive down to Mahalakotuwa stone bungalow. Leave all belongings at bungalow and get ready to start trek to Maningala Rock Trail which is 1500 mts above sea level which is a 15 Kms trail. Time takes 5 to 6 hours this is a hard trail so everybody has to be physically fit.

This trail guest can experience home garden, secluded villages, organic rice field, and crossing streams and start climbing lush green jungle and arrive to Maningala rock top. Where one could have a panoramic view of the surroundings and guest could rest over here tea and snaks would be served.

After a short rest start the trek further through lush green jungle descending onto Thelgamu stream, a beautiful natural pool with fresh bathing water pool. Where one could really enjoy. After bath proceed to Mahalakotuwa stone bungalow by vehicle. Dinner served with gin and tonic on board and retire to bed.

After breakfast at the Stone Bungalow proceed to Wasgamuwa National Park. In this drive after about an hour one could observe the change to a dray zone weather.Driving through different weather pattern and the vicinity one could observe the different patterns of life style. Arriving at the Wasgamuwa National Park Holiday bungalow, refresh yourself.

About Wasgamuwa Park

Situated in to Matale and Polannaruwa districts is one on the 4 reputed National Parks of Sri Lanka. Similar to that of African Savana Park. The forest of Wasgamuwa represents the Sri Lanka dry zone evergreen forest. The park consisting of primary and secondary riverine forest and grasslands. More than 150 floral species are in abundance and over 1700 years old Tamarind trees (Canoes-Moored) are visible here.

Wasgamuwa is a protected area where elephants could be seen in large herds. Purple face languor toque macaque are endemic to Sri Lanka, water buffalo exist here. Sri Lanka leopard and sloth bear are very rare, golden palm civic is another endemic mammal.

A 143 bird’s species have been recorded, together with 17 reptile species, water monitor and mugger crocodiles, 650 species of butterflies, 17 fish species. We now get ready to embark the 4 wheel drive vehicle and by open canopy jeep within the park at which time one could observe wild elephants, spotted deer, jackals, jungle fowls and if lucky a leopards, crocodiles and other mammals and amphibians.

Starting after lunch by which time the climate is cool the wild animals quietly come out of the jungle. This tour will be carried out till the closing time of the park 6.00 pm after drive up to the Safari Bungalow.

Shower or wash and be ready for dinner, which would be western or eastern according to guest’s wishes. Gin and tonic served on the house. Have a good night sleep and wake up late the next morning for a late. Breakfast which would be a typical Sri Lankan Village breakfast. After breakfast walk through this dry zone village to observe the habitats of the villages.

After lunch start proceeding to Kandy through another route and if time permits visit Sri Lankan Aborigines village to see their life style.Climb through 18 hairpin bends and arrive in Kandy dropped to hotel.Entire tour would cover 300Kms approximately.
